From Beyond

Attic Laboratory - circa 1934

Tillinghast's resonator reveals predators that surround us unseen - until a machine and a gun end the experiment in blood and revelation.

We see things only as we are constructed to see them, and can gain no idea of their absolute nature.

Tillinghast, lecture fragment

Overview

Crawford Tillinghast, recluse physicist, built a resonator to stimulate the pineal gland and reveal layers of reality human senses filter out for sanity's sake. The narrator, his former friend, visited and saw the air teem with jellyfish giants feeding on lives they had always touched.

Tillinghast gloated that humanity was cattle unaware. The narrator shot the machine; Tillinghast died; the things faded - but the knowledge that they wait inches away never fades.

Narrative Record

Activation brought colour, motion, and mouths in the air where breath should be empty. Tillinghast was touched, torn, or embraced - the record is unclear. The gun destroyed the resonator; predators withdrew from partial sight but not from presence.

No blueprint survived; Tillinghast's notes were confiscated. Three MIT students in 1935 replicated partial frequencies and were institutionalized.

Witnesses & Aftermath

Police ruled murder-suicide; the narrator entered quiet care in Rhode Island. Neighbours reported headaches for weeks.

Archive classifies resonator as Category-X device - destroy on discovery.

Archive Notes

Pineal stimulation research is banned. If you feel watched in an empty room, you may be correct - act as if, without building machines to prove it. Tillinghast's crime was not hubris alone; it was inviting predators to notice us back. Do not replicate. Do not seek absolute nature.
