Overview
Gla'aki belongs to the second generation of mythos horror — British, urban-decayed, and cruel in a way Lovecraft's New England seldom was. Ramsey Campbell placed the Inhabitant in stagnant water beneath tourist-pretty hills, and gave it a biology that violates both burial and biology: iridescent spawn that enter the brain and pilot corpses for years.
The Expedition classifies Gla'aki as Great Old One by cult scale and lethality, though some taxonomies list it as a regional power. Lakes in Wales, England, and later pastiche America report similar glassy backs breaking the surface at dusk.
Description
Witnesses describe a cylindrical or slug-like mass studded with crystal spines, wetly translucent, with organs visible as darkened shapes. It moves little; it does not need to. Its spawn are crescent-shaped, glittering, and fast. They leap for the head.
Victims die and continue: skin preserved, minds hollowed, tasks performed with smiling efficiency. The Green Decay ends the puppetry years later, leaving slime and scandal. Families prefer amnesia to autopsy.
Historical Record
Campbell's cycle linked Gla'aki to Brichester and the Severn Valley, expanding a map Lovecraft never owned. Later authors transported the lake-cult template to any town with a quarry pond. Wiki pages multiply; evidence thins.
