The Haunter of the Dark
Federal Hill - 1935
Robert Blake opens the Shining Trapezohedron in a star-windowed church and summons the winged haunter that hates light - the Providence incident linking Nyarlathotep's cults to Hastur's shadow.
I see it - coming here - hell-wind - titan blur - black wings - Yog-Sothoth save me - the three-lobed burning eye...
R. Blake, final written line
Overview
Robert Harrison Blake, author of the macabre, settled in Providence in 1933 and fixated on a deserted church on Federal Hill - black spire, window cut in impossible angles, silence the Italian quarter maintained with prayer. The Starry Wisdom cult had worshipped there until 1877, when something was sealed with the Shining Trapezohedron.
Blake sketched, trespassed, and finally gazed into the stone. He saw towers beyond Earth and a shape descending. Light hurts it; darkness feeds it. He died when the power failed.
Narrative Record
Through the Trapezohedron Blake witnessed Nyarlathotep's mockery or a messenger of Hastur - the classifications blur where wings blot the moon. He barricaded his room while something pressed against the glass. Reporters found him dead, eyes destroyed, bones intact, expression proving sight outlived the body.
In 1888 reporter Edwin M. Lillibridge died investigating the same cult in the same tower. Lightning struck the steeple the night Blake perished. The stone vanished; the church burned decades later; appetite did not.
Witnesses & Aftermath
Police filed heart failure; photographers destroyed plates showing wing-shadows. Federal Hill witnesses refused English testimony but confirmed the 1877 raid and the thing upstairs.
Arkham literati linked Blake's letters to Wilmarth's Vermont fears and Pickman's tunnels - suggesting coordinated pressure on sensitive minds.
Archive Notes
Trapezohedron sightings are Omega priority. Keep flash equipment charged; darkness is appetite, not absence. Photograph Federal Hill windows only with infrared screening. Read with Nyarlathotep and Hastur files - this is infrastructure, not a lone ghost.
