Overview
Professor William Dyer of Miskatonic's geology department led the Antarctic Expedition of 1930–31 to collect fossils and map ranges unnamed on commercial charts. What he found rewrote biology, history, and the limits of permissible publication: a stone city in the mountains, murals depicting the colonization of Earth by beings from the stars, and in the dark, something that still moved.
Dyer's public appeal - delivered to discourage further exploration - is the archive's longest single document. It is also a confession disguised as warning.
Description
The expedition established bases on the Ross Ice Shelf, flew over black peaks, and lost Lake's camp when drilling awakened what the murals had depicted as shoggoths - protoplasmic slaves that rebelled against their makers. Dyer and Danforth explored the city alone after the massacre: five-pointed snowflakes in stone, fresco cycles millions of years old, specimens of barrel-shaped beings that were not quite fossils.
Danforth saw something beyond the city when he flew again - something that broke his mind. Dyer saw enough. The report spares some details. The archive does not.
Historical Record
Sixteen men and thirty-seven dogs died. Photographs and samples reached Arkham under false labels. The government did not mount a follow-up expedition; whether from belief or bureaucratic inertia, the ice remains nominally empty on public maps.
The fresco history: Elder Things arrive; build; breed shoggoths; war with Cthulhu's spawn; retreat as ice advances; final fall when shoggoths overrun the last city. Humanity appears only as a future footnote in pigment.
Archive Notes
Do not organize recreational polar surveys without reading Dyer's full text. Incendiary ordnance is mandatory for any authorized return. The phrase 'Tekeli-li' is a tripwire for psychological review. This incident is why the university chains books and why the archive exists.
